Our banana fiber products literally come from nature. Handmade by local women in South India to provide better income opportunities, while also respecting the region's natural ecology. The fiber used for crocheting this product is locally available and it's made out of the "dead" leaves of the banana trees. These leaves, previously considered waste, are now getting a new life in contemporary and sustainable design innovation.
The banana leaves are spliced by hand to extract fiber strips followed by twining to make different thickness ropes which are then hand crochet and woven to make this eco-friendly rug.
