We were instantly mesmerized by the mysterious beauty, hand-scrawled captions and strikingly simple composition of this vintage snapshot — and then, upon closer inspection, even more delighted to find that it was originally used to classify a specimen from some unknown French gemologist’s collection. Once back home in Chicago, we made this image our own by upping its scale for a bit of extra drama.
