Description

Our Vintage West African Textiles come to us from the country of Burkina Faso, where they were handmade by the Mossi people following techniques passed down through the generations. The process began with locally-grown cotton, which Mossi men wove into narrow strips of fabric using traditional wooden looms. These strips were then stitched together to create a larger piece of cloth and worn by a Mossi woman as a “wrapper” — a garment customarily worn wrapped around the waist as a skirt. While these textiles were often dyed a deep indigo hue using natural plant dyes, our collection was interestingly left undyed, giving them a soft, natural off-white color that fits in anywhere. A beautiful example of Africa’s rich textile tradition, they’re a great way to add a layer of history and global style to any vignette.
