Norwegian Landscape
Fritz Smedberg, 1957
An oil painting depicting a cluster of rustic buildings nestled beneath rocky hillsides in Telemark, Norway. Broad, expressive brushwork and a muted palette of mossy greens, warm ochres, and soft grays capture the character of the landscape, while thick passages of paint add texture and depth throughout the composition.
Signed and dated lower right, "Smedberg -57." The reverse is inscribed "Sommarkväll vid Kleivi, Telemark Norge" (Summer Evening at Kleivi, Telemark, Norway) and signed and dated by the artist. Presented in its original painted wood frame with layered gold and red finishes.
Vintage condition with wear to the frame, including areas of paint loss and surface wear consistent with age and use.
