Lostine - "The Water Wheel"

The Water Wheel depicts a cluster of rural buildings nestled into a lush, hilly landscape. The large wooden water wheel forms the center of the composition, surrounded by angular rooftops, pale masonry, and dense green foliage. Greca balances the strong geometry of the architecture with the landscape’s softer, rounded forms, while a bright blue sky and rhythmic clouds give the scene a lively sense of movement.

Painted in water-based oil in June 2017. Signed and dated on the front; signed, titled, and dated on the reverse.

ABOUT THE ARTIST: Virgil Virgil Greca is a contemporary painter and sculptor who lives and works in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. His distinctive use of color and instinct for structure reflect his many years as an interior designer and the owner of his own furniture showroom. An avid art collector himself, Greca approaches his work with a practiced eye for composition, form, and beauty. Expressive landscapes are composed through bold color, simplified forms, and strong, rhythmic contours.
